Answer: Discovering writing.

It's what's kept me sane through some really bad times in life when everything was dark.

Yes, I have. And I didn't even realize it until I was actually physically hurt. But I was young and very naive.
It made me realize that the people I thought were my friends really weren't. Thank God that was towards the end of fifth grade in elementary. When I got in middle school I found my first real friend, and she's still my best friend today.
